ABOUT THE ARTIST
WHO
Hi! I’m Jenn, the girl behind Pen On Paper Co. I’m a self-taught Canadian artist based in Kelowna, BC. I mainly work with ink and oil; my two favourite mediums!
WHAT
Nature and animals are definitely my biggest inspiration. Animals have so much personality and charisma, which can definitely be a challenge to capture sometimes, but that’s why it’s so fun! I feel that art can really tie together a room and bring that cosy ‘home’ feeling like nothing else. I strive to run my business as ethically as possible, sourcing products that are sustainable, organic, fair-trade, produced locally and recycled. One of my favourite things about my ‘ink’ line is that it’s very minimalistic; an approach I apply to many areas of my life. The simplicity I strive for in my ink sketches is done on purpose. The lack of background, branches, terrain and colour in my animal pieces forces the viewer to pay attention to the animal’s character and personality. They can be the main focal point in a room or accents to your larger, more colourful pieces; allowing you to have more art in your home. I also feel like they’re very adaptable and can fit into any room and style. They’re still rough and sexy like a sketch should be, but with a little more depth than pencil. The drawback? It’s full commitment; there’s no erasing ink!
HOW
I have been creating art my entire life and started my art business in January 2019; I have been running it full-time ever since. I was a server for 6 years prior to starting my business and found that I longed for more creativity and independence in my life, so I made an ad on the Facebook marketplace showcasing some of my pieces and asking if anyone would be interested in purchasing prints if I had them made. I got an overwhelming response and so I made my first order of prints and quit my job a month later to pursue this full-time.
