Jennifer Delaney is a Canadian artist, based out of Kelowna, BC. Her pieces range, on average, from 2×3′ to 3×4′, and yes, she does accept commissions! She is still building her collection of oil paintings so be sure to keep checking back as she adds more! She draws most of her inspiration from nature and wildlife, and I’m sure you can understand why! She especially loves animals because each one provides a new challenge with varying textures and unique personalities to capture. Jennifer had no formal training of any kind and feels that she learns how to paint with every piece.
Jennifer suffers from a rare syndrome called visual snow, which is a neurological disorder that causes a continuous visual disturbance throughout the entire visual field. It is described as tiny flickering dots, similar to TV static, which interferes with everything she sees. The millions of ‘pixels’ on every surface make it even harder for her to focus and interfere with her perception of colour. She believes that this condition greatly influences her style, as she tends to stay away from bright colours, especially in her home, because she finds them overwhelming and chaotic. Her art pieces take quite a while because her eyes take extra time to focus on fine details; her ink sketches take around 20-60 hours to complete and her oil paintings take anywhere from 200-700 hours to complete.
If someone were to ask you what makes a house a home, what would you say? For me I immediately think of plants, throw pillows, and artwork. A flickering candle and good company helps too! Interior decor has always been a passion of mine and, although at this point in my life it’s not something I was to do professionally, I knew I wanted my career to be based around it in some way. I have enjoyed anything and everything creative throughout my life, whether it be painting, sketching, photography, cooking, etc. I have always believed that everyone should have a creative outlet. I happen to have several.
